I'm returning to Newtown next Sunday evening to play a few contrabbasso solos at the open mic evening at The Office bar. I've neglected poor old La Gloria a bit lately and thought that a challenge like this could put things right - six days of fairly intensive practice.
I've chosen three pieces:
- Maria, Mari - an Italian tune that I've performed before.
- Bye bye Blackbird - this is a new 'arrangement' in a different key.
- Gigue from Bach's first cello suite with 'My Gentle Giant' inserted in the middle - this is the first time I will play the Bach in public.
This is a pretty demanding programme. I'll need a glass of Chardonnay, or two, after this one - but first the practice.
