"You're becoming a bit of a crank."

"You're becoming a bit of a crank." my mum used to say.

Well, after seeing this picture, I don't think I'll touch a handrail again.

I confess to being a bit of a crank.

I agree with you on that.
For years, not just because of Covid, I:

- use an elbow or cover my hand with a sleeve to press lift buttons and open doors
- never touch banisters and hand rails
- avoid touching seats and fixtures in public transport including taxis
- use the available 'wet wipe' to wipe down supermarket trolley handles before using them
- don't touch the books and magazines in waiting rooms

and lots of others.

I don't consider myself a crank. My sister, a doctor, alerted me to how filthy and dangerous surfaces are in hospitals and doctor's surgeries where Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) runs rampant.

I think you meant "doctors' surgeries", but, yes, I take your point.

I slop hand sanitizer over the handles' on shopping trolley's and likewise, before I drive my car, on the steering wheel. The main precaution is to not pick your nose, or touch your face before sanitizing your hands.

Robert the sinner.

Why is there an apostrophe after handles?

"Why is there an apostrophe after handles?"
So said the grammar Nazi.

Her's part of a song dedicated to him:

There’s a teacher down south who runs off at the mouth
And forgets that he’s only relieving
He corrects other’s work and acts like a dork
But his efforts can be quite deceiving
Ooh, ooh his efforts can be quite deceiving
He writes his own posts which are full of boasts
But forgets to check his own grammar
Ooh. Ooh, he forgets to check his own grammar
And it makes me wonder …..
If there’s a critic on the blogs who’s pedantic
It’s just an old guy who’s at home though
He’s got too much time to fill and he gets frantic
His wife leaves him alone when she goes so
His pedantry is just an antic
Do you remember antics?

Etc. (with apologies to Messrs Page and Plant)

There are at least two spelling mistakes in that comment above to keep you busy.

Thanks Wayne.

Or do you prefer Mr. Kerr?

Mr O'Nanist will do.
