Four instruments that I practise.

The Gloria (left) and the Bob, my two double basses that are named after my parents. I've had the Bob for a very long time and have played some pretty high pressure gigs on it. Like my dad, it's a real workhorse that came from simple beginnings. It's what is known as a plywood bass, but it plays very well. I bought the Gloria a little less than 20 years ago (2009?), about a year after my mother had died. It's a mighty fine bass. Both basses are great to play and are well set up with great strings. I've basically been playing the Gloria lately but have made a decision to play the Bob more often. It's a great way to keep my parents' memory alive.

Okay, I thought that, since both of my basses have family names, I should name the other two instruments that I practise regularly after my two children and my wife. Hey, it's a good thing that I'm not practising the trumpet anymore because it begs to be named after the first five letters of it's own name! If you look at the picture of my guitar, it is obvious that it has to be named after my son (George). That leaves the violin. This is the instrument that I am presently practising by far the most. So it could be named after two people. Look at the 'f' holes. They could actually be 'S' holes, so I've decided to name my violin after my daughter and my wife. Well, remember that there are two 'S' holes. Say hello to Stephanie Shelley.

July 2009 I think is when you bought the Gloria in Auckland.

Yes, I think you're correct. You know your basses!

Yehudi Menuhin said that his violin reminded him of a woman too.

THE CURMUDGEON ha detto...

Yeah, you have to wonder about these musicians.

Richard (of RBB) ha detto...

But mine is named after two!

Richard (of RBB) ha detto...

These or those?

THE CURMUDGEON ha detto...

If you’re not careful I’ll write another post.

"It's conversational / informal English, so it works perfectly in speech or casual writing." Thankyou AI.

THE CURMUDGEON ha detto...

Does your AI friend tell you that you can call him Al?

It’s funny how computer script doesn’t differentiate between a capital i and a lower case L.

THE CURMUDGEON ha detto...

WeLL, i thought It was funny.

As long as you're happy.

THE CURMUDGEON ha detto...

"I'm happy, hope you're happy too"

From the excellent 'Ashes To Ashes' by David Bowie.

I have a pet female sheep.
"I want to be happy
But I can't be happy
'Til I make ewe happy too."

Ode ear.

Your friend Ian Thomas dropped by and was tired.

Give IT a rest. :-(

Wellington.
In every suburb when night comes
The streets get dark but
In Thorndon you can never get a park.

Comment Post:
Buon pomeriggio.
Peter is worried that Robert has changed his name to Robet.
I wonder if this is because he prefers to now be known as Peter McDonald Trump and doesn't like the competition?
Only God knows the answer - if he actually exists.
I'm thinking of changing my name to Richard Lucifer.
Why?
Well, I have been informed that I'm going to Hell when my time runs out.
If this is true, my time is probably better spent sucking up to Satan rather than God.
At least Mr. Linford won't be in Hell.
Shelley and I are still dealing with a few health problems. Hey, but on the positive side, I'm about to get some violin practice done.
I'll spend a bit of time on various scales and arpeggios. Then I'll play through some of my repertoire tunes. I don't have to pick up Harrison today, so more time to practise.

I'm off now.
Ciao tutti.

THE CURMUDGEON ha detto...

Tutti Frutti to you too.
Hey! I can write some posts for you if you like.
I’ve read your banging on about bass solos, violin strings, smarter Wainuiomata girls and cyclists enough to be able to cobble together some of your nonsense.
Just ask. No problem, I’ll put one of ‘the guys’ on the case.

Richard (of RBB) ha detto...

Jesus Christ!
Actually, that name does have its uses.
Okay, Mr. McDonald Trump. Write something about the minor 7b5 to dominant 7b9 progression.

PLEASE no AI!

THE CURMUDGEON ha detto...

I did with no AI.

Richard (of RBB) ha detto...

Well done!
