Life is like playing 10ths on the violin.

If you can chuckle in the grave, then Paganini must surely be doing that while listening to people trying to play his Caprice no. 24.

Evidently someone was walking past his grave not long after he had died. This person claimed to have heard music that sounded like the 24th Caprice being played backwards but experts said it was only Paganini decomposing.

Nay, but seriously folks...

Robert (the lots of things) suggests that the only way to play the 10ths in variation no. 6 is by playing them further up the fingerboard. Well, there's a problem with that, if you look at the picture below.

Ain't no way you can play that low A or B up the fingerboard! (cowboy talk there)

No, I guess you just have to man up and get that hand stretched. Actually, I watched a lady play the piece. She's very, very good and the 10ths seemed like no problem for her. Her hand looked smaller than mine. I guess it just comes down to practice. The only real proof of any theories will be playing the damn piece!

I'd better put something in for The Curmudgeon.

I came across a fine wine in Countdown yesterday.

It's called a Cleanskin because, when the wine is being made, the grapes are thoroughly washed before they are crushed. You can see, by looking at the bottle, how clean the wine is. I think the days of people drinking dirty wine are coming to an end. Good news.

Well, there you go, something for everyone!

Let me know if you enjoyed your read.

Ciao tutti.

"Let me know if you enjoyed your read."

I'm a bit grammatically confused here.
I didn't enjoy my read but am not sure, given that exhortation whether I should mention it.

Well, you just did.

I think you need to practise the routines for the techniques required... scales in 3rds, 6ths, octaves and 10ths, arpeggios throughout the range, bowing techniques, shifting the left hand, etc. You also need to get the practice hours up.
