I don't get many gigs, but what does it matter?
This is the last 'proper' gig I did last October. |
Ah, it doesn't matter. I was planning to organize a concert of my bass tunes around August, but I think I'll give that a miss. Who really cares if I do it or not?
Hey, I don't mean to sound down. I'm not. Yesterday I started practising Paganini's Caprice No 24. I've put in an hour on the first variation this morning and plan to do more.
It's supposed to be one of the hardest violin pieces ever written. It certainly is no push over but I've worked my way through the notes of the first variation (there are eleven) and just about have it memorized. It still needs a lot of work, but I'm winning. This variation is made up of fast arpeggios that sort of go all over the show but, when you analyze it, and apply logical fingerings (thought required here), it's not that bad.
Paganini's statement that there is only one position on the violin really helps with this variation, but I'll leave you to work that out for yourself. I think his statement that there is really only one scale helps too, though there is a little diminished run which, in my mind, sits outside that one scale.
Well, time to get practising again. No work today - yes!
Ciao tutti.
