Boy, I'm glad I'm not a catholic!

I just read Rob's latest post - 'No lustful looks when dating please'. Rob would say that, once you're baptised, you're always a catholic. Well, I just ripped what was left of my baptism right off! I'm not quoting from his latest post here. If you want to read it, you'll find his name in our LINKS list. I'm just glad to have absolutely nothing to do with that church!

I did my minimal requirement of one hour on the violin yesterday and fifteen minutes on the double bass. I feel a need to keep my double bass practice up. A fellow musician was moaning to me, the other day, about how difficult she found it to understand the tritone substitution. She plays trombone. On an instrument like the bass or the guitar it's rather easy to understand the tritone substitution. Here's an explanation, in case Pete and Rob are struggling with this too.

Instead of playing Dm7 - G7 - Cmaj7 (II V7 I), all you do is move the roots down chromatically - Dm7 - Db7 - Cmaj7. The G7 notes (G B D F) get replaced by Db F Ab Cb. (Db could also be thought of as C# and Cb could be thought of as B).

So, you still have the 3rd and 7th of G7. The other two notes could be seen as the b9 (Ab) and the #4 (C#) of G7. That's pretty simple. When this chord happened, a trombonist could just play the 3rd and the 7th. Or the trombonist could just shut up (stop playing).

I'll do some more double bass today - remember those Atomic Habits.

Peter is writing some good posts on the state of the world - quite frightening really. How do selfish idiots like Trump, Putin and Netanyahu get to be in charge?

I'm presently halfway through reading Jacinda Ardern's book 'A DIFFERENT KIND OF POWER'.

I'd recommend it to everyone. Throughout the book you're subtly surrounded by empathy and kindness. Why can't world leaders be like her?

Ah well, that's me for this morning.

As Rob sort of says, at the end of his post, "Have fun and keep your clothes on, unless you're having a shower, going swimming, having a colonoscopy or getting changed."

Ciao tutti.

I'm keen to read Ardern's book and, I guess in fairness, read David Cohen's unauthorised biography of her which has just been released. Cohen's book is backed by Centrist the alt-right group so I expect this to be right wing anti Labour and the Left bullshit but, it's like watching a bit of Fox News and other far right media channels to balance out the normal media even if what they say is odious. I note that Cohen has interviewed arrogant and ultra conservative people I dislike like Mike Hosking and Heather du Plessis-Allan. O well. It's hard trying to keep an open mind nowadays.

Robert's post was very strange. His opinions (well, information indoctrinated in him from the pulpit) on relationships, sex and marriage are like those of a cloistered nun or a frustrated spinster. Weird.

I have a book - 'A Christian Road Map for Women Travelling Alone.' that is both hilarious and scary.
Here's a snippet of what she wrote:
"In the Old Testament God's people were forbidden to commit fornication. Then along came Jesus who said we're just as guilty if we wilfully think about committing it. And that means no sex, period. No romantic daydreaming about real or imagined lotharios ready to sweep us off our feet and carry us away from this "wretched life of singleness"; no secret attachment for our doctor, lawyer, minister or our neighbour's husband; no harmless flirtations with the guy at the office."
- Jo Anne Sekowsky A Christian Road Map for Women Travelling Alone.

Some time ago I referenced it in this post:

Thanks. I'll have a read.
Yes, I just thought, "Rob meets a potential great female companion and then he brings up all this catholic shit!"

I really hope that it works out for him and that they can develop a relationship outside of the constraints of a silly, restrictive and fantasy 'religion'.

Me too.

There's not much posting going on.
