Big upset at tennis club in Whangarei.

Regular tennis matches were underway at another Tuesday Whangarei Heads Club Day. Glen sat at a table just outside the club house and sipped a beer. He wondered where that argumentative old curmudgeon was today. Then he spotted him coming through the gate.

Glen was a real fan of the new Auckland mayor and looked forward to winding Peter up again with his views.

"Wayne Brown is a very good tennis player." said Glen when Peter was near his table. Peter just replied, "Sheesh!"

"Do you fancy a few hits?" asked Glen. "You can take the far left side of the court."

Peter picked up on Glen's irony, or was it a pun? Peter wasn't sure. He'd done a lot of Latin in 3P in 1966 but the teachers had skimped a bit on English grammar and it was hurting him now. Peter thought Glen was a right wing prat.

"No thanks, I'd rather read Robert's blog." Peter replied. Of course, Glen didn't know what Peter was talking about, but Peter liked to confuse him.

Not much point coming here if you don't want to play tennis." Glen continued.

"Well, why don't you bugger off down to Auckland and give Wayne a game?" Peter retorted. Glen sipped his beer. He knew he could whack Peter around the court and Wayne was pretty sure that he was smarter - he knew a lot of big words and watched a lot of Fox News.

Fortunately, one of the courses Peter had done in 4P in 1967 was How To Deal With Smart Arses. He knew that Glen's time would come and he just thought, "Sheesh!"

Peter was working on a great retort for Glen but, unfortunately Richard (of RBB) who was writing this had important practice that he needed to get done, so the post stopped here.

Postus Interruptus.

Robert would disapprove.

THE CURMUDGEON ha detto...

Apropos of nothing - not a latin phrase and, actually, not relevant to the above post and this comment - My serve was spot-on today and I sent Mike (aka Glen) scuttling.
