Merda!

 

Three pieces of fruit.

Three pieces of fruit that had always served him well. Three pieces of fruit that had served him particularly well in this portfolio, which was to be his last, in this series at least.

He knew how to group things, that was one of his strengths. For him, a forte. 

Pear, apple, orange, apple, pear, orange, apple, pear was the sequence that got him interested in this portfolio and, after stating his intention, he began to paint this picture. The different combinations that would follow would be what people would love, but they would be controlled.

Some light moods.

Some dark moods.

He intended to add ten more paintings to this portfolio.

There was plenty of fruit to choose from, but order was important. Contrast.

Harmony needed contrast. Light and dark.

An apple was a tangy enough fruit that fitted perfectly in the middle. Its perfect counterpart was a banana. 

Smile.

People liked to say that a banana looked like a smiley face and made its combination with two other fruits joyous.

Though all the fruits brought something to the palate.

He always started with the same three pieces of fruit, though he did drop a grape or a strawberry here and there.

This combination could handle the occasional grape or strawberry.

Then something came unbearably unstuck!

What was he thinking?
