Truth is now what you believe it to be!

Okay, for various reasons, today has been a bit of a testing day. I'd made the decision to settle down with a Cleanskin chardonnay, or two. Then I read Robert's blog. TC had left about twenty five comments because he's stuck alone somewhere near the Whangarei Heads. Poor old bugger! Maybe he needs home help?

Robert was writing in his post about some guy called Father Alfred.

Not Fr. Alfred, but he probably looks
something like this.

To quote Robert, "Father mentioned the post truth generation. Of course, truth is now what you believe it to be!"

WHAT?

"That coming from the catholic church!" was my first thought.

Belief and truth need to always be opposites. They can never be synonyms.
Anyone who tells you they are the same is a bullshitter, like Father Alfred.
This guy is doing a lot of harm when he 'preaches' to vulnerable people.

Here are two definitions:

Belief: an acceptance that something exists or is true, without proof.

Truth: that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.

Well, fuck my days!*

I don't want to fuck your days but I do agree with some of the things that you said.
Did you say that The Curmudgeon's blog is right on the button or did I just believe you said that?

Anyway, I agree that believing in something should be based on proof, science or empirical knowledge. Personally I'd like the empirical knowledge of seeing Robert laying on his face in that church. Then I'd know he's a nutter along with believing that he's one.
